Bacchius Geron
Bacchius Geron
?
Bacchius Geron ("Bacchius the Elder") was a Greek music theorist, author of the surviving "Isagoge artis musicae" (Introduction to the Art of Music), a short catechism-style treatise on harmonics cast as a series of questions and answers. The work transmits Aristoxenian musical doctrine and is a valued source for ancient Greek music theory. His date is genuinely uncertain; he is most often assigned to the later Roman period, perhaps the 3rd or 4th century CE, though the evidence is thin and some scholars have proposed an earlier date.
