Neferneferuaten (disputed Amarna ruler)
1338 BCE–1336 BCE · New-Kingdom
Neferneferuaten (throne-name Ankhkheperure) was a ruler who reigned in the immediate aftermath of Akhenaten in Dynasty 18. The identity, sex, and even number of the Amarna successors are among the most contested problems in Egyptology: this figure may be Akhenaten's queen Nefertiti ruling as king, and may be the same person as Smenkhkare, or distinct from him. All of this is debated and unresolved, so the entry is kept as a hedged, disputed node. Restored here against the king-lists' erasure of the Amarna kings.
