Peribsen (Seth-Peribsen)
Peribsen (Seth-Peribsen)
2740 BCE–2720 BCE · Early-Dynastic
Peribsen was a king of Dynasty 2 remarkable for placing the god Seth, rather than the customary Horus, atop his serekh (the rectangular frame enclosing the royal name). This is usually read as evidence of religious or political upheaval, though the precise meaning is debated. He is attested by his tomb at Abydos. Whether the king Sekhemib is the same ruler under another name is unresolved.
