Psamtik II (Neferibre)

595 BCE589 BCE · Late-Period

Psamtik II (throne-name Neferibre) was a Saite king of Dynasty 26 in the Late Period who led a major campaign deep into Kush (Nubia); the soldiers of his army, including Greek mercenaries, left their names as graffiti on the colossi at Abu Simbel, a famous early record of Greeks in Egypt. He also pursued a programme of erasing the royal names of the Kushite Dynasty 25.
