Ramesses I (Menpehtyre)

Ramesses I (throne-name Menpehtyre) founded Dynasty 19, conventionally dated to around 1295-1294 BCE. An elderly military officer and vizier under Horemheb, who had named him as successor, he reigned barely a year or two but established the Ramesside line that would dominate the rest of the New Kingdom. He was the grandfather of Ramesses II.
