Smenkhkare

1338 BCE1336 BCE · New-Kingdom

Smenkhkare (throne-name Ankhkheperure) was a shadowy co-regent or successor of Akhenaten in Dynasty 18. Whether Smenkhkare was a distinct male king, the same figure as Neferneferuaten under another name, or even Nefertiti reigning as king, is unresolved and forms part of the great open problem of the Amarna succession. Restored here against the later erasure of the Amarna rulers.
