Tanutamun (Tantamani)
Tanutamun (Tantamani)
664 BCE–656 BCE · Late-Period
Tanutamun (also rendered Tantamani) was the last Kushite pharaoh of Dynasty 25 in the Late Period. He briefly retook Memphis, an event he recorded on his own 'Dream Stele', before the Assyrians under Ashurbanipal drove the Kushites back to Nubia and sacked Thebes in 663 BCE. That sack ended Kushite rule over Egypt and is a fixed point of synchronism between Egyptian and Assyrian history.
