Gaudentius

?

Gaudentius was a Greek writer on music theory, author of a surviving "Introduction to Harmonics" (Harmonica introductio), a concise handbook of ancient Greek harmonic science. Drawing on the Pythagorean and Aristoxenian traditions, it treats intervals, scales, notes, and the mathematical ratios underlying consonance. His exact date is unknown; scholars place him somewhere in the Roman imperial centuries, perhaps between the 2nd and 4th centuries CE, though estimates range more widely. Almost nothing is known of his life. His treatise remains a useful, accessible source for understanding the structure of Greek musical thought.
