Kyansittha
? · Bagan
Kyansittha (reigned 1084–1112/13) was a king of the Pagan (Bagan) Empire who took the throne after helping suppress a Mon rebellion that killed his predecessor. A great admirer of Mon culture, he pursued conciliation with the south and patronized Mon language and art at his court, helping fuse Burman, Mon, and Buddhist traditions into a maturing Burmese civilization. He completed Anawrahta's Shwezigon Pagoda and built the celebrated Ananda Temple (c. 1105), a masterpiece of early Pagan architecture.
