Longus

?

Longus was a Greek writer known as the author of "Daphnis and Chloe," one of the finest surviving ancient Greek novels. Almost nothing is securely known about him as a person; he is generally placed in the Roman imperial period, probably around the 2nd century CE, and is often associated by tradition with the island of Lesbos, where the romance is set. His pastoral love story, recounting the gradual awakening of two foundling shepherds, is celebrated for its delicate prose, idyllic landscape, and lasting influence on European literature.
