Ziusudra / Utnapištim
? · Šuruppak
Ziusudra ('life of long days') is the Mesopotamian Flood survivor. Warned by the god Enki/Ea of the coming Flood, he builds a great boat, rides out the deluge, makes an offering when it subsides, and is granted eternal life among the gods. He appears as Ziusudra in the Sumerian Flood story, as Utnapištim in Gilgameš Tablet XI (where he recounts the Flood to Gilgameš), and as Atra-ḫasīs in the epic of that name; Berossus' Greek account calls him Xisuthros.
