Onasander

Onasander

?

Onasander was a Greek philosopher and writer of the first century CE, best known for his "Strategicus" (also called "The General"), a concise treatise on the qualities and duties of an army commander. Dedicated to the Roman statesman and general Quintus Veranius, the work distills practical and moral guidance on leadership, discipline, and the conduct of war rather than detailed tactics. Little is known of Onasander's life, but he is described in ancient sources as a Platonist philosopher. His handbook was influential and continued to be read and translated into the Renaissance and early modern period.
