Rafram bar Papa

Rafram bar Papa was a late Babylonian Amora of the seventh generation, active in the early fifth century at the academy of Pumbedita. He was a student of Rava and participated in the intensive legal discussions that characterized Pumbedita's scholarly culture. Rafram is remembered in the Talmud for his careful reasoning and his contributions to debates on halakhic matters, particularly in the areas of Shabbat law and ritual practice. He lived during a period of significant transition in Jewish life under Sasanian Persian rule, and his teachings were preserved and transmitted by the next generation of scholars who shaped the final redaction of the Babylonian Talmud.
