Suryavarman II

Suryavarman II (reigned c. 1113–1150) was a Khmer king remembered above all as the builder of Angkor Wat, the vast temple complex that is the largest religious monument in the world. Unusually among Khmer rulers, he dedicated his great temple to Vishnu rather than Shiva and took the posthumous name Paramavishnuloka. His reign combined monumental construction, restored central authority, and extensive military campaigns, leading historians to rank him among the greatest of the Angkorian sovereigns.
