Echoes in the Jewish Canon

The sages of the Talmud and Midrash lived inside a Hellenized world and knew its stories. Sometimes a Greek tale surfaces in the Jewish canon — retold in its own key, absorbed from a common ancient stock, or pointedly answered and turned toward Torah. These are echoes and parallels, honestly named, never copies.

Gathering the echoes…

Curated and reviewed for accuracy. Relationship terms: reception = the Jewish text plausibly drew on the Greek tale; shared motif = both draw on an older common stock; response = the telling answers or subverts the Greek; parallel = genuine resemblance without demonstrable contact.
