Mind-Benders of Christian History
One scholar's alphabet is still used by millions
Around 405 CE the monk and scholar Mesrop Mashtots designed a 36-letter alphabet for Armenian so that scripture and liturgy could be written in the language. That script, with a few later additions, is still the everyday writing system of Armenia today.
How we know
Mesrop Mashtots created the Armenian alphabet c.405 CE (36 original letters, later expanded to 39) under King Vramshapuh and Catholicos Sahak; still in use (Wikipedia; World History Encyclopedia; Britannica).
