Afyonkarahisar (Afyon)
Afyonkarahisar, in west-central Anatolia (modern Turkey), is a city dominated by a rock citadel. The reformer Said Nursi (d. 1960) was imprisoned and tried at Afyon in the late 1940s, one of the several Anatolian towns connected to his repeated prosecutions under the early Turkish Republic.
