Almeria

Almeria (al-Mariyya), a port-city on the Mediterranean coast of al-Andalus (modern Andalusia, Spain), grew into a major harbour and shipbuilding centre under the caliphate of Cordoba and the taifa kingdoms. It produced and hosted Andalusi scholars; figures such as Ibn Hazm and Abu Hayyan al-Gharnati are connected to the wider al-Andalus context.
