Alon Shvut, a community in the Gush Etzion region of the Judean Hills (in the West Bank, south of Jerusalem), is the home of Yeshivat Har Etzion, a leading hesder yeshiva combining advanced Talmud study with army service. Founded in 1968, it was led for decades jointly by Rabbi Yehuda Amital and Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein and became a major center of Religious Zionist Torah scholarship.
