Beirut

Beirut, the Mediterranean port that is now the capital of Lebanon, was a town of Bilad al-Sham. It is associated in early Islamic history with the Syrian jurist al-Awza'i (d. 774), the leading legal authority of Syria in his day, who settled and died in Beirut, where his tomb is located.
