Bistam
Bistam (Bastam), in the historic region of Qumis on the northern edge of the Iranian plateau (modern Semnan province), is the home town and burial place of the early Sufi master Abu Yazid (Bayazid) al-Bistami (d. c. 874), famous for his ecstatic utterances; his shrine made Bistam a place of pilgrimage.
