Cunaxa

Mesopotamia

Cunaxa was the site, on the Euphrates in Babylonia north of ancient Babylon (in modern Iraq), of the battle in 401 BC at which Cyrus the Younger was killed fighting his brother Artaxerxes II. Xenophon, who marched with Cyrus's Greek mercenaries, describes the battle and its aftermath in the Anabasis.
