Forlì

Italy

Forlì is a city in Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy, in the historic region of Romagna, which began as the Roman settlement of Forum Livii on the Via Aemilia. In the Middle Ages it governed itself as a commune and was held by the Ordelaffi lords for much of the period from 1302 to the late fifteenth century, before being absorbed into the Papal States in the early sixteenth century. The Jewish physician and philosopher Hillel ben Samuel retired to Forlì in old age and died there around 1295.
