Hit

Hit, on the Euphrates in the Anbar region of western Iraq, was an old town long noted for its bitumen springs. The traditionist and frontier ascetic Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak (d. 797) died at Hit on his way back from a campaign on the Byzantine frontier.
