Jaghbub

Jaghbub (Jaghabub), an oasis in the eastern desert of Cyrenaica in present-day Libya near the Egyptian border, became the principal headquarters and religious-educational centre of the Sanusi order: Muhammad ibn Ali al-Sanusi (d. 1859) established a major zawiya and library there in 1856, and Jaghbub remained the order's spiritual capital.
