Kastamonu
Kastamonu, in the Black Sea hinterland of northern Anatolia (modern Turkey), is an old town of the region. The reformer Said Nursi (d. 1960) was held there in internal exile from 1936 to 1943, a period during which he composed several of the most important treatises of his Qur'anic commentary, the Risale-i Nur, distributed through a growing circle of students.
