Konya

Konya, in south-central Anatolia (modern Turkey), was the capital of the Seljuks of Rum in the 12th-13th centuries and a major centre of Sufism. The poet Jalal al-Din Rumi (d. 1273) settled, taught, and is buried there, and the Mevlevi (whirling dervish) order grew up around his tomb; his student and interpreter of Ibn Arabi, Sadr al-Din al-Qunawi (d. 1274), was also based in the city.
