Kostroma

Kostroma, a city on the Volga northeast of Moscow in Russia, was the place of internment of the Ottoman-Kurdish reformer Said Nursi (d. 1960), who was held there as a prisoner of war after his capture by Russian forces in 1916; he escaped during the upheavals of the Russian Revolution and made his way back to Istanbul.
