Manbij

Manbij (classical Hierapolis Bambyce), in northern Syria east of Aleppo, was a town of the Jazira/northern Syria frontier. The Abbasid court poet al-Buhturi (d. 897), one of the greatest poets of the 9th century, was born at or near Manbij in the region of his Tayyi' tribe.
