Mar Saba, a Greek Orthodox monastery (lavra) in the Kidron valley wilderness east of Bethlehem, in the West Bank, founded by Sabas in 483. John of Damascus lived and wrote there in the 8th century, as did the hymnographer Cosmas of Maiuma.
