Monsey, a hamlet in Rockland County, New York, northwest of New York City, is one of the largest centers of Orthodox and chasidic Jewish life in the United States. It grew rapidly from the mid-twentieth century into a hub of yeshivot and chasidic communities; among the leading Torah figures who lived there was Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetsky.
