Multan
Multan, in the southern Punjab of present-day Pakistan, is one of the oldest cities of South Asia and an important early centre of Islam in the subcontinent, later renowned for its Sufi shrines (notably that of Baha al-Din Zakariya of the Suhrawardi order). The Persian poet and mystic Fakhr al-Din Iraqi (d. 1289) spent many years at the Suhrawardi khanqah in Multan.
