Bleda (near Galeata, Romagna)

Italy

Bleda is a small locality near Galeata in the Apennine hills of Romagna, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The surrounding valley traces its origins to the Umbrian town of Mevaniola, taken by Rome in 266 BCE, and in the Middle Ages it was dominated by the Abbey of Sant'Ellero. Galeata came under Florentine rule in the early fifteenth century, belonged to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany until 1860, and was transferred from the province of Florence to Forlì in 1923. Pope Paschal II (pope 1099-1118), born Raniero, is recorded as a native of Bleda, though some sources name Galeata itself.
