Austin, Texas

Austin is the capital of the U.S. state of Texas, on the Colorado River in Central Texas. Chosen in 1839 as capital of the Republic of Texas, it was briefly called Waterloo before being renamed for Stephen F. Austin, and it remained the seat of government after Texas joined the United States. The University of Texas at Austin held its first classes in 1883. The physicist Steven Weinberg joined that university in 1982 and worked there until his death in Austin on 23 July 2021.
