Lancaster, England
Lancaster is a city on the River Lune in Lancashire, north-west England. A Roman fort stood by the end of the first century CE on the hill now crowned by Lancaster Castle. Chartered as a borough in 1193, Lancaster grew in the 1700s into a busy port that ranked fourth among British ports in the slave trade; it gained city status in 1937, and Lancaster University was founded in 1964. The anatomist Richard Owen, who coined the name Dinosauria, was born here on 20 July 1804.
