Largs, Scotland
Largs is a coastal town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, Scotland. In 1263 Scottish forces attacked Norwegians from King Haakon IV's fleet who were salvaging ships driven ashore here by a storm; both sides claimed the battle, and in 1266 Norway sold the Hebrides to Scotland by the Treaty of Perth. Largs later grew into a seaside resort. The physicist William Thomson, created Baron Kelvin of Largs in 1892, lived at the mansion of Netherhall here and died there on 17 December 1907.
