Williamsburg (Brooklyn)
Satmar Brooklyn
Williamsburg, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, became one of the foremost centers of Hungarian and chasidic Orthodoxy in America after World War II. It is the seat of the Satmar chasidic community, established there from 1947 by Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum, the Satmar Rebbe; it was also a base of Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz, the builder of the Torah Vodaas yeshiva and a key figure in American Torah education.
