Ejisu (Ghana)
Ejisu is a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, about 20 km from Kumasi. In the Asante kingdom it was a chiefdom led by a paramount chief, the Ejisuhene. Yaa Asantewaa was appointed Queen Mother of Ejisu by her brother, the Ejisuhene, and became regent of Ejisu-Juaben after the British exiled her grandson, the chief, together with King Prempeh I in 1896. In 1900 she led the Asante in the War of the Golden Stool against British rule; she was exiled to the Seychelles, where she died in 1921.
