Late Dynasty 19 (Seti II, Amenmesse, Siptah, Tausret)

1203 BCE1186 BCE · New-Kingdom

A grouped entry for the troubled close of Dynasty 19: Seti II, whose throne was contested by the rival or usurper Amenmesse; then the boy-king Siptah under the powerful regent Tausret, who went on to rule as king in her own right before the dynasty collapsed into a brief anarchy that the later Great Harris Papyrus blames on a Syrian named Irsu. All are historical; Tausret is a female king, and the order of Seti II and Amenmesse is debated.
