Psamtik III (throne-name Ankhkaenre) was the last Saite king of Dynasty 26, who reigned only months before being defeated by the Persian king Cambyses II at the Battle of Pelusium in 525 BCE. His defeat ended Egyptian independence and began the First Persian Period.
