Ptolemy III Euergetes
280 BCE–222 BCE · Ptolemaic-Roman
Ptolemy III Euergetes was the Ptolemaic king at the height of the dynasty's power and territorial reach, victorious in the Third Syrian War against the Seleucids. The priestly Canopus Decree, a trilingual decree in hieroglyphic, demotic, and Greek that anticipates the later Rosetta Stone, dates to his reign and is an important document of Ptolemaic temple-state relations.
