Trung Sisters
?–43 CE · Mê Linh
The Trung Sisters, Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, were Vietnamese noblewomen who led a rebellion against the rule of Han-dynasty China in northern Vietnam beginning in 40 CE. Rallying local lords and driving out the Chinese administration, they established a short-lived independent regime with Trung Trac as ruler over the Red River delta region. Han forces under the general Ma Yuan defeated the uprising and the sisters died in 43 CE; though their birth years are unknown, they are honored in Vietnam as early symbols of national resistance and independence.
