Normandy — medieval French Jewish center
Rouen was the capital of Norman Jewry and a major rabbinic center until the 1306 expulsion. Recent archaeological discoveries beneath the Palais de Justice revealed a 12th-century Romanesque yeshiva building — one of the oldest surviving Jewish educational structures in Europe.
