Ghoṣā
c. 1300 BCE · Kurukshetra
Legendary Rigvedic woman seer (rishikā) credited with hymns 10.39 and 10.40 of the Rigveda. No historical dates exist; the placement reflects the late Rigvedic stratum (tenth maṇḍala) by convention only, and historicity is uncertain.
Ghoṣā is a legendary woman seer (ṛṣikā) of the Rigveda, traditionally credited with two hymns in the tenth mandala (RV 10.39 and 10.40) addressed to the healer-twins, the Aśvins. Tradition names her the daughter of the seer Kakṣīvat and granddaughter of Dīrghatamas, and tells of her praying to the Aśvins to be cured of a skin affliction so that she might marry. She is a figure of scripture and legend rather than documented history.
