Rabbi Yehuda ben Beteira was a second-generation Tanna who lived during the late first and early second centuries CE. He was a prominent figure at the academy in Nisibis (in Mesopotamia), where he taught and established a center of Torah learning that became influential in the Jewish diaspora. He was known for his halakhic acumen and his ability to preserve and transmit traditions. Yehuda ben Beteira is remembered in the Talmudic tradition for his interpretations of Jewish law and his role in maintaining continuity of learning during a period of significant change in Jewish life following the destruction of the Second Temple.
