Didius Julianus
c. 133 CE–c. 193 CE · Milan
Roman senator who became emperor in 193 CE after offering the highest bid to the Praetorian Guard, which had auctioned the throne following the murder of Pertinax during the chaotic Year of the Five Emperors. His reign lasted only about nine weeks (roughly 66 days) before the Senate turned against him, condemning him to death and recognizing his rival Septimius Severus, who was marching on Rome. He was killed by a soldier in the imperial palace on 2 June 193 CE.
