Galba

c. 3 BCEc. 69 CE · Terracina

Servius Sulpicius Galba (born 3 BCE near Terracina, died 69 CE) was the first emperor of the Year of the Four Emperors, taking power after Nero's suicide in June 68. He had a long prior career as praetor, consul, and provincial governor in Aquitania, Germania Superior, and Africa (and later Hispania Tarraconensis). After about seven months he was murdered in the Forum in January 69 by Praetorians acting for his rival Otho, who succeeded him.
