Antichrist
The great adversary expected to rise against Christ before the end
The Antichrist is the eschatological adversary who opposes Christ before the end. The figure draws on the letters of John, 2 Thessalonians 2, and Revelation, and was treated early by Hippolytus. Christians have interpreted the Antichrist's identity and timing in widely differing ways, and some traditions have made polemical identifications of particular figures. Such identifications are tradition-specific and should not be stated as established fact.
