Emperor Renzong of Song (Zhao Zhen, 1010-1063) was the fourth emperor of the Northern Song dynasty and its longest-reigning ruler, on the throne from 1022 to 1063. His reign is associated with cultural and intellectual flourishing and the careers of noted statesmen and writers such as Fan Zhongyan, Ouyang Xiu, and Bao Zheng. Though his government faced military pressure from the Western Xia and the Liao and attempted the short-lived Qingli reforms, his era is generally remembered as a peaceful and prosperous period of Song civilization.
