Maharana Pratap
1540 CE–1597 CE · Udaipur
Maharana Pratap (1540–1597) was a ruler of the kingdom of Mewar in Rajasthan who resisted the expansion of the Mughal Empire under Akbar. He is best remembered for the Battle of Haldighati in 1576, an inconclusive engagement after which he continued guerrilla warfare from the hills rather than submit to Mughal authority. Over the following years he recovered much of his territory. He remains a widely commemorated figure in Rajput historical tradition.
